The Amy Stone Foundation works to improve access to and diversity in rock climbing, a sport with incredible benefits to mental and physical health, that has historically included mostly folks with privilege. Many people from underrepresented backgrounds face financial barriers, unable to pay for the basic equipment to participate in our sport, much less afford a membership or regular day passes. We aim to help lower this barrier by providing programs that give opportunities to underrepresented climbers and kids who would otherwise have no access to our sport.
BIPOC individuals who make it in the door are left trying to excel in a sport without representation. We hope to help everyone feel welcome as they are introduced into our sport and the outdoors alongside faces that look like their own and relate to their experiences. Knowing the feeling of being ostracized and tokenised, we want to make sure people know they belong in this community with the help of BIPOC mentors.
Each shirt we sell funds a free day pass to a local climbing gym for a child. We have partnered with various gyms across multiple states and cities to sell these shirts and cover the costs of day passes for kids coming from their local Boys and Girls Clubs, local public schools, or other kids with financial barriers. Your purchase goes directly into making the climbing community more accessible for the next generation, and you also get to rock these sweet shirts.
We're still in the process of getting everything set up, so we appreciate your support and patience as we work through this process! If you have any questions or want more information, please reach out to us at Natalie@amystonefoundation.org
