WE ARE WORKING TO IMPROVE ACCESS AND DIVERSITY IN CLIMBING

It Takes a Village

As climbers, we like to believe that this is true, but many families don’t have easy access to the sport. Whether it’s geographical constraints, generational fears, or financial barriers, access to climbing, both indoors and outdoors, can be a seemingly insurmountable challenge. That’s why A.S.F. is dedicated to making climbing more accessible by easing the financial burdens many face and introducing them to the sport through mentors from their communities.

We truly believe in the benefits of physical activity and the confidence that is built through a supportive community. By partnering with local organizations, we’ve allowed over 6,000 children—and their families—to discover the world of climbing. Our goal is to help those who are underserved, overlooked, or displaced, giving them a place in our sport where they can escape the burdens of the outside world. Through our partnerships, we connect them with climbing gyms, offering a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Recently, we have partnered with organizations in and around Newark, N.J., to help get many more displaced families into climbing spaces.
